Menstrual Health Day 2024 at UCH Staff School

Menstrual health talk Group photo with participants Q&A session with students Distributing menstrual pads

What We Did

We visited the UCH Staff School to discuss with female secondary school students. We delivered a menstrual health talk using simple language to keep things clear and relatable, ensuring the girls could easily grasp the concepts. This was followed by a lively Q&A session where the students could ask questions freely.

To support their immediate needs, we concluded the visit by distributing free menstrual pads to all participants.

Why We Did It

We carried out this outreach to honour Menstrual Health Day and to address the gaps in knowledge and access regarding menstrual hygiene. We aimed to create a supportive environment where girls could learn about their bodies without shame and access essential products that are necessary for their well-being.

The Impact

By combining open education with the provision of free hygiene products, we tackled both the stigma and the practical challenges of menstruation. Initiatives like this equip young girls with the confidence to manage their periods safely, helping them stay focused on their education and daily lives.

“I used to be so shy talking about my period, but the way they explained everything made it feel normal. I finally got to ask questions I was too scared to ask anyone else.”

— Folake, SS2

“The session was actually really fun. It cleared up a lot of myths we hear around school, and it was cool to receive the care packs as a reminder to take care of ourselves.”

— Toyin, JSS3
